colorful lighthouse point park wedding

Oh heyyy, I hope you’re all staying warm and enjoying the snow! I’m definitely not a snow person but I can appreciate it’s prettiness – as long as I don’t have to drive in it. I’m still trying to blog more often because we have all of these beautiful weddings to share with you so I decided on Liz & Dave’s colorful Lighthouse Point Park wedding today!

Liz & Dave met their freshman year of college and played violin together in the orchestra – they started dating the following year and have spent the last nine years (or maybe 10 now since I’m so behind on blogging?!) traveling the world together! Literally. They travel ev.ery.where, and in addition to traveling everywhere they lived in Australia for a while – so cool! All of their table numbers at the wedding were places they’ve traveled which was a super personal and creative way to incorporate that part of their lives; they also had photos of them on their adventures as the seating chart! Also – whenever Peter and I meet with couples we always ask them if they have anything special planned for the wedding that we should know about and a lot of people give us crazy looks but Liz and Dave are the perfect example of that – halfway through the reception they got up on the stage area, pulled out their violins and played a duet with the band – no one knew about it! I almost started crying and I don’t even know why haha.

The weather for their wedding day called for rain and it was beautiful and sunny all day — until the ceremony. You can see the clouds rolling in in the photos and it held off until about halfway through when it started drizzling which everyone ignored, then it started raining more and all of the staff brought out umbrellas, and then it was torrential rain and everyone had to move to the pavilion area for the last 5 minutes. Luckily Liz and Dave are so relaxed and everyone just laughed about it so it was fine! And wouldn’t you know as soon as the ceremony ended the sun came out again and there was a rainbow!

But enough words – I’m sure on a mobile device this text looks endless haha. Liz and Dave, congratulations and thank you for allowing us to be with you guys on your wonderful wedding day!

with love daphne and dean

Hello friends, happy Tuesday! I’m on my way to get my oil changed (anyone wanna go for me? Bueller? Bueller?) but before I go I wanted to share Chris & Jenna’s cozy beach engagement session with you! This session was so much fun – partially because it was our first shoot of 2017 (YAY!!) and partially because they are such nice people, we really loved chatting and laughing with them! This year I feel like we’re really going to focus more on emotion than ever before; we’re perfectly capable of taking a nice photo that is technically correct but what’s even more important than that is capturing moments and feelings, so that when family and friends view the photos they can say ‘YES, thats exactly their personalities!’ I don’t think we will ever know if that really happens since we’re not actually there when the families see the photos, but that’s what we’re shooting for (pun intended).

Jenna and Chris really wanted their engagement photos taken at Jenna’s parents house in Westbrook – her best memories are from the beaches there in the same way that my (Erin’s) best memories are from Cape Cod. We were happy to oblige because it was so. pretty. The weather was perfect that day even though it’s January and we got so lucky with the overcast light. One of our favorite things about engagement sessions is just wandering around and stopping when we see something that looks interesting – luckily all of our couples have been okay with our wacky requests so far (‘go stand in that giant weed!’) and Jenna and Chris were more than happy to humor us. They are such fun to be around and after the session we went to Bill’s Seafood (which is where Peter and I met!) and chatted with them for another couple of hours; we can’t wait for their Lace Factory wedding in April and are so excited to share these photos with you!

Hi friends, it’s Wedding Wednesday (I think that’s a thing?!) and we’re finally sharing one of our favorite weddings of the year with you, Amanda and Joe’s Chatfield Hollow Bed and Breakfast wedding! We first found out about this venue from Jess & Tim last year  and ever since then it has been one of our favorite places to visit. Ken (the owner) and Tima (the innkeeper) are two of the nicest men you’ll ever meet and every time we’re there we have so much fun chatting with them and learning about the farm. I feel like every time we go there we see and learn new things!

Anywayyyys, Amanda and Joe are the sweetest people ever – I just can’t get over how nice they are. They met on Amanda’s front porch at a Christmas party and spent two hours talking outside that night; afterwards all of their friends said they knew sparks were flying! A couple of months later they started chatting via Facebook messenger and shortly after started dating – and then they did long distance for a year and a half! Joe is stationed in the military in NC and Amanda was living in CT but has since moved there so they could be together.

We were so excited when they got in touch with us about photographing their wedding because we love Chatfield Hollow Bed and Breakfast; it’s in the middle of Killingworth in a location that I drive by a few times a week and yet when you’re there it kind of feels like it’s in it’s own little world and it’s far enough off the main road that you can’t hear anything but nature – it’s so romantic and magical (which sounds so lame but it’s the truth!) and at night you can hear crickets and see fireflies and it’s just the best place ever. Not to mention there are peacocks and swans and other gorgeous birds all over the property.

Amanda & Joe, thank you for allowing us to be a part of your day. We loved it and are so excited for you both!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! I haven’t really posted anything here since then (or in the last few months really) so I feel like it’s still okay to say that – we’re finally posting some of our favorite images of 2016 and we’re so excited to share them with you! Most of them are from weddings and engagements that we haven’t even blogged yet so you’re seeing them for the first time but we’ll be sharing these photos (and more that aren’t here!) in their full blog posts over the next couple of months and we can’t wait.

We were so lucky to travel more during 2016 (we had our first ever Florida wedding – see that here!) and we got to photograph at some of our favorite venues: Lord Thompson Manor, Tyrone Farm, Chatfield Hollow Bed & Breakfast and The Squantum Association. We did a bunch of fun shoots just for us, we mixed a lot more film in with our digital images (can you tell which ones are film?!) and we met so many new people that we can now call friends. We also acquired a bunch of new board games (and our board game buddies moved across the country…) so if you ever want to play a game with us definitely get in touch!!

2017 is already going to be so incredible and we’re not even done figuring out where we’re going to travel (but I will be in Florida for a few weeks next month if anyone wants to schedule a shoot – wink wink). We’re SO excited for all of the weddings and engagements that we have coming up this year and we’re debating offering a few other things so keep an eye out for those announcements here and on Instagram!

And here’s a picture of us from over 5 years ago when we were attending a wedding and posed for prom, just because. Thank you Peter for the terrible Instagram filter.

What’s this, I’m blogging?! I just looked back and over the course of 2016 I only posted here eighteen times. Eighteen! Which is really sad because one of my goals for the year was to blog more . . . oh well! I’m getting ready to post some of our favorite photos from 2016 but I haven’t quite finished so in the meantime, here is our Instagram Best Nine since everyone is posting theirs! We were so blessed to be able to travel more and meet so many people this year and we are so, SO excited for what 2017 has in store for us!
